My very rusty German spells out 'the end and the start' as my 2011 closes in Berlin. It has been a wild and different year for myself as i am sure it has been for everyone else - what does next year hold? (normality, stability, structure and sensibility?) i certainly hope not, but have a feeling it may. However for everyone and myself included tonight looms (or has finished) and so do heartwamers/heartbreakers, inebriated success'/sober regrets and pure ecstasy/the pits.

So as for 2011 it was a conquering and ruining year for bass heavy music as dubstep gods were seen for their true 'brosteppin' talent, whilst for disco and funk it still is growing and missing that edge of acclaim. Ozzies can lift their head high with Cut Copy being nominated for a grammy whilst some fresh and revived talent rocked it at home... many building the already solid scene we have a reaching new heights as far a festivals and gigs!!

Speaking of the top releases in the eyes of drunkfunk here are our top ten albums of 2011...

10. Audio, Video, Disco - Justice
Although the much anticipated album did not fulfil the acclaim and was the target of many criticism's it still remains to be an awesome album that it is diverse amongst vast festival fields or simple bedroom banging (just a little below Justice's super high standard).

9. Living on the Edge of Time - Yuksek
A big change of pace for Yuksek who was previously known for some great dancefloor anthems and has now proved he too has the power of electro pop as he has released an 'on the road' themed gem.

8. In the Grace of Your Love - The Rapture
The multi-talented and genre cross dressing group have put out another great album which will see them give it a work out on the road with trips to Australia already announced and a huge tour schedule across America and Europe - one packed with variety and some pure funk!

7. Total - SebatiAn
The Ed Banger wizzkid dropped his massive first full length release which embraces his thrash heavy and gritty early style with some added rhythm's and hooks that gives his new sound some depth far above his years - the title track Embody is the absolute antithesis of this!

6. The English Riviera - Metronomy
A summer-breezy release that has got a big European workout even though it peaked in the cold winter. This English group keep on growing and getting better with their bass slapping, synth-heavy release also getting a very big and superb remix workout.

5. Pala - Friendly Fires
Although unlike the others it is only an LP - it is a fun packed, full paced release that channels some deep house piano riffs and sees the British trio experiment even further with more sampling in their unique style of electro-pop... this one is sure to build their fan base above the majorly teeny-bopper crowd as it casts some new wise production quality into their groovy sound.

4. Making Mirrors - Gotye
Deserving of many more awards in Australia, every Boy and his Bear is a fan of the massively successful title track 'Somebody That I Used to Know', however this album has much more depth then that and is probably the most versatile i have heard this year. Skipping across genre's and using an array of different instruments the efforts and influences that went into this Belgian born Aussie boy's release. This video shows just that level and creativity which has given birth to one of the best Australian albums to date - and a sure Hottest 100 winner.

3. SBTRKT - SBTRKT
A premier release which has answered the call and saved dubstep from internal 'brostep' destruction. The man who DJs behind a tribal mask uses various influences in his post-dubstep thriller of an album and has rapidly built a huge following all around the world. Some smooth vocal appearances on the record put together this years best debut album!

2. Zonoscope - Cut Copy
The grammy nominated indie release is a superb follow up to their hugely successful 'In Ghost Colours'. Cut Copy fly the Australian flag high and lead in the way of homegrown talent. This album although not being as popular in oz as overseas has lifted the trio to all new levels, playing Coachella, being announced in the Virgin Concerts from a peoples vote and of course winning many awards and stealing many hearts with their intimate live show.

1. Hurry Up, Were Dreaming - M83
This album is best described through a full listening, start to end. Containing a lot more then the french touch, M83 takes you on a journey through dreamy synth pop to some ambient electro sounds. Due for a trip to oz with SBTRKT for the Laneway Festival, his sideshow is looking like it will be one of the hottest tickets on the 2012 calendar. The rest is best left heard, not talked about - grow yourselves some ears mutants and get this one inside of you!!

As the winter bite of Britain’s weather sinks its teethfurther in some warming and relaxing tunes have surfaced for consumption withthe standard tea & scones diet. Chad Valley has created some more soothing tunes to tantalate the ears of many.Away from his solo moniker Hugo Manuel has also released an EP with hiscollective band formation Trophy Wife, called 'Bruxism' – who are getting some very big reviewsand props all through the industry. Trophy Wife are ones to watch in 2012 asthe potential they show has enough vigour to have brought big hitter James Yuill on to producemany of their tracks. In a review of their EP BBC noted that their sound has "the irrational twitch of Talking Heads and the propulsive pulse of New Order". The overall versatility of Trophy Wife and Chad Valleys tracks meanit can be well absorbed for the melancholy mood of European winter or thedreamy bliss of summer Down Under. You may not find yourself grinding away to 'Bruxism' as the title actually infers, but rather ecstatically and safely enjoying some quality tunes with your pearly whites.

As the grunge and grime of Budapest's nightlife looms, the fitting glitchy and thrashy tunes of funkadelic frenchman Surkin seem very fitting. With his much anticipated second album 'USA' just released from his own label (founded with Para One & Bombo) 'Marble Records' - it currently under the iTune and Blogosphere gang-rape. 'USA' is full of great collaborations and an excellent range between his original take on slamming electro and the more club/radio worthy tunes; made listenable to the fainthearted by some soothing vocals and samples. All in all Benoit Heitz has pulled out the goods on this one - and just in time for an ozzie summer df slamming!!

New Beginnings and new experiences have been rampant for mein the last few months – and within this new music, discoveries and some freshbeats have been invading my eardrums of late. The constantly evasive ‘check-in’ with the world left behindin Sydney today reminded me to update upon my trip. For those to whom I havebecome a bit of a Jason Bourne in Europe – my current whereabouts lies betweenTurkey and Bulgaria. I have been here so far for 67 days, I have stayed under31 different roofs, caught 23 regional trains, crossed around 14 borders – andamongst all of this only vomited once! Apologies for those who are tune malnourished, due to my most recent lapse in posting - however i am preparing for a eurotrip, on which stylised posts will be frequent.

Duck Sauce (A-Trak + Van Helden) have followed their viral success of 'Barbara Streisand' with an array of well sampled and disco/funk infused jams such as; 'Grand Steppin', 'Your Nasty' and 'Goody Two Shoe's'. Now this wolf pack has produced another humorous yet groovy track - which instead of poking fun at past celebrities has targeted a refix on a child nursery rhyme.

My deliriously brain-fried and extremely scat Sunday recovery sessions have recently consisted of coffee, bananas, action movie's, tar and the occasional hair of the dog brewske.

However.... as the always chaotic long weekend was just upon us - i find myself wedged in a mish-mashed delirium of Mondayitis (manic/monday ~ syndrome) and Scatrrhea (sunday/brain ~ roast).

My saviour this time being an extensive session of 203 new downloads.... and a fucking good omelette! :)

So upon serving you up some main course tracks to 'munch' into - i have centred the appetiser's upon a very promising Ozzie act. Yet again the land down under has produced another excellent indie-electro live act!! Any who know me personally may have heard me raving about this melbournian 4 peice - and making big comparisons to Aussie acts such as The Preset's and Cut Copy. However rash these may be the depth and fine tuned sound they have already got put's them in such a league - Although factors of the changing electro music scene and their overall swagger may not see these 'strangies' stoop to commercial and eventually 'apocolypso
tic' levels. I shall let their tracks do the talking for you and i am crossing my toes that they keep up the production quality and great indie hooks in future songs!!

French electro & pyramid's - unheard of.

Well maybe not Daft Punk, but certainly a fresh face on a very familiar and always impressive French electro scene. Pyramid produces some great synthy and melodic electro then slow's the bpm and add's the deep tech house French libido, to tracks which at times float you through Neil Armstrong's spaceboots and at other moments have you a cruising Moscow street's in some string enhanced brilliance. I am not often blown away by premiere EP's of straight out electro acts these days - who are somewhat replicating movements and similar beats of the so called French Touch movement... however this has done the number on me.

Repetitive and slow progressing synth and drum loops (which ache of a middle ground between Justice, Daft Punk and Cassius) reflect a very refined production quality which many young-guns simply yearn for.

Make up your own mind on this new French phenomenon with original tracks and a doozie remix.

Pablo Calamari; According to his label 'Sweat It Out' grew up "on crayfish and olive oil... before being washed into the world of Caribbean riddims, sun-washed dreams and ghetto booty flava..."

The multiculturally 'riddim' infused Pablo Calamari is not just another top producing toy for Ajax and his banging Australian label, but he is also releasing what i presume to be some BIG clubbing and acclaimed tunes.

He may have slightly missed the boat as many of his cranking beats are summer suited to afternoon corona's and beach trips. Nevertheless with a line of other chart topping producers in the same label (and many lending a hand on remixing his stuff)... Pablo Calamari is set to be a firm favorite in the Australian electro scene some time in the future!

Making a return from the animal kingdom (my updating and forever shuffling iTunes) and getting back in the eye of drunkfunk are Zebra & Snake. In case you missed it we featured this mammal and reptilian combo a while back and the tunes this Finish pair put out on their EP 'Nighttime' still are being favoured by the millions of tiny hair in my ear's. So i do not like to be too repetitive but i do believe these guys deserve another listen and I tip their debut album (whenever it may be released) to tickle the testicles of indie and electro kids world wide.

FUTURE... It's a time to think about the past

The fitting words of a Cut Copy jam lay out the post reflection (whether any sleep occurred or not) on what truly was a massive Future Music Festival 2011 (SYD)!!! As some sceptics may have criticised the logistics of the event prior to yesterday - namely the amount of stages and the usual snares and clashes of the set-times - they were all silenced, turned or beheaded by what the day turned out to be.... showing the potential that 'hype' can have, but is often not witnessed on the sporadic and wavering sydney club and music scene!!

The Good's:

--> the weather pulling together

--> turnout of people in relation to space/layout etc

and the overall vibe of the crowd/artist's and event!!

The Grouse:

--> to see presets can still jam and mix up a two year old set (new stuff on the horizon for mid to later this year)

--> the man who always delivers on his continual world tours (not sure does he stop?)... anyway the coolest asian since Confucius, absolute entertainer and head of DIM MAK Records - Steve A fucking oki.

--> The Chemical Brother's closing and incredibly impressive set, a big fan came back a bigger one - and much of this credit much go to the visual show which cannot be payed homage by dodgy youtube recordings or pictures.... so so f'ing rad!!

The Dirty Minga's:

-->a 400 dollar alcohol consumption on public transport fine

--> being the only one to notice that within the reworked and tweaked Preset's set... they used the instrumental and almost verbally performed Tom Middleton's remix of their track 'If I Know You'

The songs below encapsulate a great day for me and hopefully others! i have chucked in a couple of ripe tracks as well for those who wish not to mull over missing out on what i believe topped Field Day & Big Day Out... and currently leads my favourite event, festival and general experience for 2011 - the munted expression's, ecstatic outburst's and childish grins from gates open to gates closed tell me many more will be agreeing!!

(it was not summer it was some Ozone raped season of musical and partying bliss)

Crystal Fighter's massive and well-known tune 'In The Summer' has a cool yet very random and cool video that does not do very much for matching with the song title!

The autumn leaves are now falling people! Although with belated summer heat and the ensemble of parties/festivals continue so do the tunes. Below are a couple of tracks from Cut Copy's highly anticipated and eventually leaked (even though its out now and has been for a while) album 'Zonoscope'. It is slightly more somber than 'In Ghost Colours' and touches more into their dark indie rock side rather than the dance. However overall its an awesome melancholic album with some very solid tracks - and most importantly it was not released in sync with (and the effective shadow of) 'Apocalypso'. For more indie-kids i have chucked in a cool cover of Yeasayer's huge track 'O.N.E'!!

Will be back shortly with some bigger beats and huge drops so don't reach for the tissues just yet crankers!

Not too much needs to be said about Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk/ Mashtastic/ Mr Mash/ King of Mash/ Sampleton Mashington III. His ingenious blending and overlaying of pop, hip hop and retro tracks holds a crowd like none other. With worldwide touring Girl Talk reels in the dough for his highly demanded live show that many of us may have been witness to at last years Big Day Out festival... and thankfully he acknowledges that he is only reproducing and crafting existing tunes into something brilliant - hence why his album is for free download (also he avoids many legal dilemma's through this). Anyway judicial stipulations aside, my poverty stricken, schoolies-saving self is very thankful for this. Ultimately he is a wicked dude with ripping tunes and if you do not like this album then you are a festy douche.

A Fair Solid Centurion

So 'drunkfunk' has reached 100 and along the way many musical, cultural and social developments have been made - one being that NuDisco is alive, cranking and taking over the music scene like a relentless zombie army (more producers are infected by the curse of the disco ball ha). Minus the 'beyond the grave' analogies such is true about this modern musical development... And for the 100 club I thought it would be best to run with the drunkfunk trend of tune sharing and general uncovering. Propping up the leaning tower of fading Italo-Disco are 'Fare Soldi' - who are the new age Mario and Luigi behind the decks. They succeed in conquering a fast paced and acid infused style of 'porno-bass' heavy Italo-Disco. Fuck-clustering of music genre's aside these dudes are funky as their main aim is to induce "smiling whilst dancing" and props to those who have survived the Italian Fidget/Cranking onslaught of mega-producers like Crookers and The Bloody Beetroots.With their name translating to 'make money', this ambition seems inevitable and i am tipping a trip down under in the next 6 months!!

So at the moment the drunkfunk contributors and many readers are in no position to party because of three ominous letters (H.S.C), however post exam riot's loom and we welcome all to join for messy mayhem and support of the scene. Particularly for two events. Firstly young-gun Louis La Roche is playing Candy's for only 18 slices of bread (2bucks cheaper than an average night at Candy's) on the 5th of November. Secondly a party of a bigger scale (Summer Seasons) is going down at Greenwood on the 13th of November to welcome in summer and the partying that comes with it. As Van She Tech, Dangerous Dan, Wax Motif and Jimmy Disco will be playing i have dropped a fresh tune for this below and if you like it or just want to go a tad wild on the 13th - email me for tickets (nick.saw@hotmail.com)...

The Big Day Out 2011 lineup landed.

Good weather has given birth to beach visits

In The Mix ran a house party in Potts Point which the likes of Busy P, Brodinski, DJ Medhi, Jack Beats and AC Slater attended.

And Parklife + the long weekend draw ever closer

As arguably one of Australia's best music festivals Parklife nears a combination of warming up tunes and chilled study beats have occupied my ears of late. And so for those who are gearing up for yet another great festival, or to the geeks, nerds and brainiacs alike who are trying to do well in that 'little quiz before schoolies' (HSC) then hopefully these two artists can help.

Already strongly featured on drunkfunk! and a fixture of disco and electro world-wide acclaim is the UK bopper Grum. He is on his way down-under to bust out his 80's inspired set on the Parklife tour. With a highly successful album ('Heartbeats') released earlier this year and a remix list worthy of a royal scroll, Graeme Shepherd [aka Grum] deserves all the worldwide acclaim he is receiving. I suggest to anyone in need of some fresh new music or artist to get right into that they go out and grab his album as many are comparing it to electro avant-garde releases such as Daft Punk's 'Discovery' and Mylo's 'Destroy Rock & Roll'. Here is his latest retouch of Parklife compatriots plus a mint tune of his own - also i suggest to anyone who loves the idea of an 80's police/melodramatic/homo moustache inspired video clip check it out here.

Now heading back into the archives comes one of my all time favourite albums. Infamous French duo Air's 'Talkie Walkie' for me is the ultimate study-to-good-music-without-jumping-on-your-chair-and-doing-hanky-panky album. It blends very chilled and minimal beats with a dreamy layered sound that reeks of the artistic French. It is not everyone's cup of jaffa but it certainly has its great moments as tracks like 'Surfing on Rockets', 'Alpha Beta Gaga' and 'Cherry Blossom Girl' are timeless and unmistakable. Adding to the beauty of the album is how 'Alone In Kyoto' one of my all time favourite tracks puts me right in the shoes of Scarlett Johansson in 'Lost In Translation' - creeping and peering around Tokyo. I highly recommend purchase and don't condone but would understand illegal acquiring of this album as it is just musical bliss.

New beginning's are becoming an august trend. No drunfunk is not now doing star-sign's, however as our country approaches a political (and namely liberal) abyss it is great to know that fresh starts and the blossoming of careers are sprouting out of what could ultimately be looked in hindsight as a regressive time. With more and more ozzie releases hitting dance-floor's and pleasuring indie ears, it is destined that the Australian music scene will soon be receiving the accolades it deserves. Namely Art Vs Science have been obvious stand-outs for many around festival circuits - or even god forbid on the ol' wireless (thankyou tripleJ).

With their Magic Fountain tour in process the Art Vs Science trio have probably endured their fair share of 'pinch yourself' moments - as only a mere two years ago my pre-pubescent self and others looked on at Splendour In the Grass 2008 at a surprisingly good and fine-tuned live performance. Not rushing anything with single's and EP's keeping them active whilst touring their latest releases have been very well accepted by the ozzie electro/indie scene. 'Magic Fountain' a quickly assuming crowd and radio favourite; although not show casing their true range or talent (ie. the not so lyrical masterpiece it is) - does however encompass the true zeal and verve of their hard-hitting fist pumping style. Thankfully the trio have commissioned not only acclaimed internationals such as Kissy Sell Out to retouch the track but also local hero and drunkfunk favourite DCUP who puts a great jiving disco-pop spin on the tune. If you have not yet experienced an Art Vs Science live show - drunkfunk recommends you head to your local dance festival.

Hailing from Peterborough, England the fresh electronic duo that are ZX have been rocking it ever since picking up acclaim for their remix of Fenech Soler's 'LA Love'. I am yet to find out if they have been snapped up by any label but it looks like the more they hold out the more the label groupies will circle. This is good news as we should hopefully be seeing a full scale release from the British youngen's on the horizon. Nevertheless their odd releases and remixes have proved producing aptitude far beyond their age, however this is becoming a huge trend all around the world and here in Oz with doozie producer's such as James Kane and Swick swirling the first legal drinks at a club night they are headlining. Their self-described synth house translates into a great Alex Metric, SebastiAn and early Grum sound. Influences aside it should be noted that these boys have devised their own original and mint sound with a nice mixture of rich, dreamy synth lines and popping bass drops. The young talent has yet again produced some timeless electro tracks primo for dancefloors, road trips, personal iPod boogie's - whatever the occasion. The electronic horizon yet again shines brightly on the future of the scene and young talent such as ZX.

I think it is safe to say that not much needs to be said about DCUP and his dope disco stylings (yew parklife). But with his latest release the scope is on the group he has retouched a tune for in that of Aussie three piece Cosmo Black. Competing in triple j's unearthed competition these guys are well worth supporting. I listened to and voted for a group called... Art vs Science in the same comp a few years back and they ended up winning and playing to a sweet crowd at splendour that included me so it really is a valuable thing to win. have a listen to their tracks on unearthed and vote! I will be discussing a few uncovered Aussie gems that i find in the next few days so be on the lookout. till next time ciao.

I know what some may think "oh really more nu-disco?" and to those of you i say yes! it is the future of the electronic scene and standard dance is dead if a beat is not cranking then it is new wave disco revival. Midnight Savari is a great example of how outstretched the nu-disco arm is a house driven scene in Jakarta has produced some sydney signed brilliance in Ken Adhitya (Midnight Savari). Ken although from what i can see is only quite fresh on the scene has sent over some really great tracks that are well described through the elements - at times his tunes posses a range between earthen simplicity, liquid tranquility, flaming synth hooks and a cool easy cosmic breeze of disco. He has been picked up by sydney label 'Death Strobe Records' and is set to release a 12" in a month or two - with a good variation and some tight layering his ten minute epic 'The Sirens' has hooked me. Support from the c90's in their latest chart mix is not in vein. Check him out and support this artist as his dreamy disco is getting me through a mountain of study right now it may have the same effect for you.

Good morrow lads and ladette's. I have been loving the indie-electro toonz currently and they have pretty much dominated the blog, but do not cry crankers as i have not forgotten ye. For those who would rather tingle their spidey senses with some dancefloor smashers the king cranker himself 'Drop The Lime' has some fresh new stuff on the scene. Set to be a club killer and possible 2010 anthem the tune has also received a bit of retouching and stylings from many. So i will let bleeding gums murph... woops! i mean Drop The Lime do the rest of the talking for his track, however to emphasise the true beauty of the sax i have included an old 80's track that in its garish-disco feel is now nothing but brilliant - enjoy.

Indie kids and norms alike celebrate as Helsinki's finest have just emerged for your euro easy indie sound. Infused with synth additions and heavy drum hooks the latest tracks from their EP 'Nighttime' give Zebra And Snake a dark indie dimension that intertwines with the electronic pop revolution we are undergoing - for the better or the worse? The Finish duo have really impressed me with the quality of their early tracks and demo's alike, a remixable sound and the ability to appeal to many crowds could see this alternative pair gaining a lot of support this year. I am undecided about a prediction for their future scope on the scene but a debut album would certainly seal my opinion. Nevertheless Zebra And Snake are my next thing for indie-electro in the outside of London euro scene - check out these tracks and be sure to support by buying their EP 'Nighttime' it is a worthy investment to this mammal and reptilian group who have a large future ahead of them.

Introducing to you all Primary 1. Some of you may or may not have heard the sounds of this mysterious producer and DJ. At the moment his track with Riton 'Who's There?' is getting a lot of radio play on mostly triple j and is a prominent feature of a roll of dj's mixtapes and club dance floors. With a debut album set to drop soon he has released a single from the soon to be album 'Princess'. This track sits amongst many of the beast above's pervious releases - i have included a refix that just intensifies the tune so cheers to BigStereo for the hookup. And for those who are new to this king of the jungle (dancefloor*) then enjoy his most notable tune as well.

Excuse my absence of late. The surmounting pressures of my studies and a problematic computer have resulted in some drunkfunk neglect. Nevertheless one must deliver and in doing so i have singled out a very chilled minimal disco array of tunes from Rockets. Hailing from Coimbra Portugal Fred Oliveira (the man behind the aeronautical alias) has produced some tranquil yet funky beats that border 90's snare infused house music and some nu wave disco. The prescription on Oliveria's music recommends use whilst orbiting a chillaxed enviroment, what lacks vocals and the nu wave disco hooks takes a new level of a minimal funky disco progression - best you decide yourselves as this hybrid chiller is certainly prepared for lift off.

So as the Parklife 2010 lineup sinks in beyond all the big names which are jumping out at you one that may have gone unnoticed is Delorean. According to their myspace these Spanish hangers are not actually signed yet, which asks the question as to has their ever been a more blog hyped band who amidst topping hypem download charts and playing around the world can be unsigned and unnoticed on a festival lineup? Current matadors of the indie scene they have released a new album 'Subiza' which if it does not fly under the radar of recognition like their previous stuff should be destined for great things. If you are questioning the picture and title then i shall explain - the DeLorean was the model of car synonymous with Back To The Future and is i gather the origin of their band name. Below is a mint follow up to their hit 'Stay Close'... certainly a name to watch out for, and on that note lets hope these other tracks i have included will also get you saying "great scott!!"

Thankfully to co-incide with my illness he prescribed me with the latest releases and remixes from UK groover Grum. It almost seems like the Klaxons have after their super successful first album put a curse on themselves... waiting far to long to release a back up and even though it is not Rocky V and totally boring listeners i am not too sure how it will be received. From first look this fresh tune is not much new on their old stylings, which is good news for fans of old because if you are like me you are just glad to be listening to Klaxons stuff again. No stranger to the electro scene Germany's Alex Rihda (aka Boys Noize) paired up last year with Brit Erol Alkan to create some dope tracks such as 'Waves' and 'Death Suite'. Now in 2010 the partnership has continued producing a few more originals...most notably the track 'Lemonade'. The original itself is ok but in my opinion adopts a bit to much hard trash that is a somewhat signature of these two, However it has undergone a hand of remixes which have taken the hooks and melodies of the track and added a more concise beat and chilled rhythm. Spooking the Disco!

The rad disco infused beats of Holy Ghost! first popped onto the scene with massive original's such as 'Hold On' and 'I Will Come Back' as well as a handful of dope remixes. Sticking to the word they promised on their second single they have come back and released a heavily anticipated EP Static On The Wire. Besides laying some wicked new tracks the NYC boys also have quite busy touring schedule coming u and will be playing with the likes of Hot Chip, Chromeo and LCD Soundsystem whom they have released a snazzy remix for ahead of their numerous US dates together. It is good to see these guys back after the tragic death of their drummer Jerry Fuchs who was also involved in bands; The Juan Maclean, !!! and Maserati. Due to that tragic loss they did cancel their tour down under but hopefully we shall see these dudes again killing the dancefloor like never before. His latest work has just come off The Cheerz fresh new EP Whooz Da Baddest, a recent gift which has provided three original tracks from this upcoming electro duo (USA). The likes of Yolanda Be Cool, TV on Mars and Big Dope P have also accompanied Douster to aid the production of what is an interesting mixture of electro, hip-hop and ghetto house.

Excuse the lateness all. Last saturday Totem Industries/One Love brought one of the biggest dance festivals in Europe to Australian shores - Creamfields! The day was a messy one and although it wasn't the best festival i have been to it was still well wicked. A boilerroomesque Royal Hall of Industries brought a few let downs from the usually reliable Kid Sister and MSTRKRFT, however a standout for me was ozzy boys The Aston Shuffle. A ripping set packed with crowd hooks and dancefloor bangers i was very impressed with these dudes from the capital. And it obviously shows they have found something good to do down there - besides questacon.

All in all a pretty good day and i look forward to a better executed and bigger Creamfields Australia 2011.

As sobriety and structure sets back into my life post holidays i am returning to my musical millstone. Another familiar (and highly regarded) face who has returned to the musical scene are the thrashingly brilliant electronic dyad that is Crystal Castles. The talented production and execution brought to the table by Ethan Kath, along with the energy and overall presence of NME coolest person (2008) Alice Glass is what makes this Canadian duo so unique - and therefore so good. To those who have not yet heard of Crystal Castles then shame on you, however their style of music is not for all and is best described as the black jelly bean of electro music that is addictive because of its edgy nature. Credit aside CC are back with their new EP - 'Celestica'. Below you can catch the title track. I do plan to be posting more frequently and although i do say it a lot i will try my best (as will The Peeler). Locally-infamous deejay Ajax can be a given whole range of props for his relatively infant label 'Sweat It Out' and the talented names under its list. This homegrown label and those within are creating all kinds of dancefloor perspiration on both ozzy and international levels. This funk entity is fast growing and grooving its influence around the Australian dance scene and getting support from big international names. Boppers such as Act Yo Age, DCUP, Swick, Yolanda Be Cool and many more are slashing tracks under the same name as other more afro influenced Wax Motif and Killaqueenz. For the 'i live under a musical and social barrier' demographic above is a dude who you should get familiar with. Kid Cudi is a rap sensation that owes his success to his audience and somewhat trip hop/electro influences. His style is real and its his choice of backing, mashing and collaboration that is special. At times uplifting and pumping and others times a more chilled and melancholy feel - his tracks have come a long way from his first mixtape 'A Kid names Cudi' to his ultra-successful album 'Man on the Moon'. Props to wikipedia who alerted me to the fact that his real name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi - hence 'Cudi'. This kid has a lot to offer and although i believe in supporting the scene i am still a broke teenager, however i managed to fork out for the album and was impressed with a collaboration list of Snoop Dog, MGMT, Ratatat and more you can see why his popular in and out of the scene. Below however is an old track of his in which he raps over one of my all time favourite tracks - 'Someone Great' by LCD Soundsystem. Enjoy and remember there is much more then just a Day N Night Pursuit of Happiness to this yank crossover.

Hello Again. As my peeling counterpart recoils further into blogging procrastination i thought i would so what we at drunkfunk do best - share good tunes. So this post is about DCUP who apart from being one of my favourite Aussies at the moment is also another product of the 'Sweat It Out' label that has done nothing but hijack the oz music scene lately. This sydney kid has been busting out funk infused disco mixes lately that have left me with a little child's grin on my face. This grin is purely to do with the future of the Australian music scene and how some of these local dudes are getting worldwide recognition. DCUP's music style to me surrounds a stern negro version of John Travolta doing the monkey. However an idea is best drawn from listening to his jams. I have liked his tunes for a while now and i am sure that the following tracks will do the same for you. With the ability to 'turn a wedding into a warehouse party' this dude is definitely worth a listen. I am currently in a bass-wobbling, stereo-cranking euphoria. The diagnosis is a Jack Beats overdose, yes its the highly anticipated Jack Beats Radio 1 Essential Mix. They do not need an intro (at least in my books) but if you want one there is one before the mix. I do not know what i would do without the Essential Mix and do not understand why anyone in the UK would listen to nay other radio station then Radio 1. These bass-heavy dudes bring an awesome compilation of their own stuff, awesome remixes and some well chosen exterior bangers. For many of you a two hour long mix may not sound appealing but this is well worth it for any cranker's out there. Lately i have been indulging in the art form of music that is covers. And with this is also the remixes that i would title as a cover due to the ingenuity and artistic faculty that is present in these tracks. On drunkfunk we have posted many covers before so just to make the looming presence of Monday a little more bearable here are a few more.

The first is a mellow indie cover of the mianstream collaborating effort from T.I. and Rhianna. Anya Marina takes this tune to another audience and despite the fact that her innocent and enchanting voice is "poppin bottles" and "tellin broke niggaz" then it is a very good listen. I have a large amount of respect for those daring enough to take on big songs with their own twist and she is no exception - definitely worth a listen.

Whatever You Like (T.I. Cover) - Anya Marina

The second is a very funny but surprisingly good cover of a seductive classic. Brought to fame by Marvin Gaye it has adopted a classic sense of what his surname would suggest. Hot Chip take this one to their own front putting a funky spin on this tune and although the appeal of it is lost after one or two plays it is still a pretty rad tune. Hot Chip are ones to watch at the moment with their new album getting good play in Europe and slowly hitting Oz airplay.

Sexual Healing (Marvin Gaye) - Hot Chip

Up next is an orchestral version of the dance classic 'Aerodynamic'. Tom Hodge's twist on one of Daft Punks greatest tracks is not to win over crowds or to top the original (personally only they can top themselves e.g. Aerodynamite on their reworked Daft Club is close to if not better), however what this sedate and classical version does is make you appreciate the status of Daft Punk and their influence on the electronic scene and it also shows what it would sound like if those two robots hijacked an orchestra. I suggest that you listen to the original first to get an even further appreciation of this cover - enjoy!

Aerodynamic (Daft Punk Cover) - Tom Hodge

Last is a funky reggae rework of the Miike Snow hit 'Animal'. And yes i do agree that this song has been remixed to the bullshit, however this is different from the dancefloor bassfixing remixes of most. A bit quirky but i think the melody does sound quite cool in a reggae organ version, the peculiar nature of this remix stretches to bringing a very literal meaning to the song title by including a range of animal sounds. Tweaked vocals and fun loving snares have made me love this remix and i hope you do also!

Apologies all. I have been experiencing some technical difficulties with my computer - though i have recovered all my music and am back to posting (i promise). 2010 has opened pretty hard with many releases, festivals and bangers hitting Australian shores. On my return i am not going to make belated predictions for the year, however i am going to share a bunch of reasonably unknown tracks that are way too rad to miss out on. Amongst this bunch is a majority of synthy electronic tracks - but for the crankers of the you i will be bringing some dancefloor bangers to the drunkfunk forefront shortly - so sit tight! Tyler Blake and Michael David have burst out of the LA electronica scene over the past 12 months with some killer summer sounds. Classixx have developed a unique sound which has been a popular choice with the touch ups of Major Lazer, Holy Ghost! and Beni, all of which speak for themselves. The combination of disco synth driven by catchy vocals have made this duo a major crowd pleaser for their dance floor fillers, however they present a diverse range with tempos for every occasion from the club to bedtime remixes.

For me as the event draws closer so does frantic pre-bali organisation. Although a saviour during this time has been the addictive super mash antics of Girl Talk. I myself am not the biggest RnB fan though the extreme nature of his mashes, blends, and changes are what really hook me. As a dj myself this is envious music at its best and it also includes an element of music that i adore - recycling retro tracks in modern ways. In any one song you could hear a range from Kelly Clarkson to Metallica to Salt N Pepper. The only downfall of this master mashing extremist is that if a certain track floats you boat it will be a short lived ride as he crams in thousands of samples into one set. His album Feed The Animals is available as a 'pay-your-price' album... Meaning that you can support this overgrown chiller a lot or little (i myself repurchased the album as to contribute ten dollars). Do not feel obliged as if you are a BDO ticket holder then your contribution has been payed and your boiler room fantasy will be delivered. Also the label the record was released through has other strong sample artist signed and after downloading browsing their work wouldn't be a bad call.

Away from the BDO now. I will be in bali on the 23rd but as this event has such a great lineup i was hoping to share it all with you so that people can party on my behalf (to decent music). The Arthouse which since stopping kink has not had a great deal of quality stuff on is hosting three major pumpers. The event is headlined by One Man Party who is part of the infamous Soulwax and got his solo alias via crazy dancefloor antics - and surely brings a great set. One of my favourite groups of the last year or so Designer Drugs also join the roll and bring their dirty pumping scene electro to the Arthouse. Lastly is Le Castle Vania whose synthy dropping beats have recently impressed the pants of me - probably will open the big acts but not one that you want to miss. A week from today and hundreds of thousands of people from the SYD will converge upon the 99th annual Big Day Out festival. As yet another treat for those who cannot keep the excitement of the festival that is BDO in their pants drunk funk is providing the goods. What is regarded to many as the best festival in Australia has not been given this title due to the variety of lineup it produces every year, but also due to the expression of culture that makes it an awesome Australian event. Although it is noted that a main feature of the day is the international acts that is brings to oz. One of those on this years roster and probably the best indie/electro cross-over duo that has graced the music scene to date is Simian Mobile Disco. The innovative methods that go into producing their tracks and pumping out sets is what has made James Ford and Jas Shaw two of the most respected names in the bizz. Recently the pair recorded the first Essential mix for BBC's Radio 1 of 2010 and in this they give us a new direction they are taking with their music this year. Review - Drop The Lime

With such a thriving music scene Sydney is at the forefront of the nightlife in Australia... As i enjoy the international and homegrown acts that are brought to syd dance floors, i feel it is appropriate that we start serving reviews as part of the DF! menu. For a taste test is a quite belated review of Drop The Lime at Chinese Laundry. If you do not know Chinese Laundry (however expensive it may be) is a damn fine venue. Case study being a friday night in which i met The Bloody Beetroots, Drop The Lime and that is not to mention the music that they were dishing out. Props to the in house DJs there including Marky Mark and King Lee who always deliver a great set. DTL being the International that night played about a two set - of which he told me later was only really using one turntable as the other had broken. The now electronically disabled Drop The Lime impressed banging out a wicked set. Well worth the pacific commute this Brooklyn Banger filled his set with originals, dirty dubbing beats and crowd grabbing vocal fills. Overall i am glad i went as i missed out at Stereosonic (damn the shit organisers) on his internationally acclaimed set. The only criticism is that one of my favourite tracks of his was not played. Another thing to note is the venue and Chinese Laundry this weekend are hosting the brotherly combination of Kid Kenobi & Hugga Thug known as Two Fresh so go check them out. Drop The Lime's set had me dancing and in every tune all night so it deserves its high + rating - a great start for many set reviews in the future.

Munk Funk

Its been a while but we are back and now regularly fixing the holiday hits straight up here. Look out for every day or two for a feature post or track fix. Back to whats important. Unlike many electronic producers that hail from Germany Munk has dropped some slightly lighter and more synthpop beats. His new album Cloudbuster is definitely worth a good listen as it is not full on and not too chilled - the album has a unique sound of progressive beats and jacking rhythms with some fantastic synth lines. Anyways here are a few tracks from the maverick of the German electro scene....This is one to watch with many tracks being remixed by big names and featured in the top string mixtapes at the moment. Go out or log on and buy some of his ill tunes- otherwise these can satisfy your funk needs.

Due to a significant workload im going to keep this one short.
The Crystal Fighters have just released their second single which has been boucning around the blog scene over the past week. The heavy synth, brisk percussion and Spanish accent on the vocals has significantly individualized this Spanish band, putting together a little genre in itself, "Basque-tronica" as it has been referred to.
The recent remixes that have been compiled have been excellent, a lot more upbeat than the original. Personally these two in particular have been better than the original.

Kris Menace isn't foreign to blogging world and has received a large amount of his support from online releases, mixtapes etc. Borderline veteran electronic producer Kris Menace aka Christophe Hoeffel has his own label ('Work It Baby') and tons of digging synth electro tunes in circulation. Along with collaborators such as Alan Braxe, Fred Falke and Lifelike he has produced some disco/electro-pop tunes that are soothing beats to the musically matured of us. Excuse the belated Halloween post but my weekend took priority. So in recent time there has been a somewhat dub revolution - courtesy of names like Rusko, Foamo and Doorly. One of the artists who has also been ripping it up is Skream. This UK dubber has been a pioneer of the scene and claims to have 8000 dub variation songs under his belt. Most of you would know his work through his progressively wicked remix of La Roux's 'In For The Kill'. Pre and post this acclaimed mix he has shown true form in other mixes, singles and collabs. With his partner in dub crime - Benga, Skream will be opening 2010 with those dnb baselines and ripping beats at the Field Day festival. The first is a track that has been quite recently hyped up with big names pulling out remixes of it. It is the latest track from Kasper Bjørke and although being a short, sweet, dreamy and smooth track it also has a ripping video that is worth a look.

Hello all. Firstly apologies for the recent lack in posts. From now onwards i intend to give at least two weekly fixes of music/reviews/videos/news etc.

Now back to buisness... Since my recent departure many good tunes have been hitting the floors around Australia and the world. And with the recent parklife tour came a string of great DJs/Bands bringing there homegrown or international tunes with them. One of the most notable was the turntable wiz kid himself A-Trak. The story behind this world banging DJ began with bar-mitzvah money that was used to buy his first set of turntables. At the age of 15 he was one of the best scratch mixers in the world as seen here in such videos of his competition sets. Anyway at parklife it was Busy P who dropped A Trak's latest remix. It is in my opinion some of his best stuff so far and will be hitting the club scene in the US and oz quite soon.

I may be a little late on this plug but its weel worth it. And although i promised myself not to post during exams i take by the words of what Winston Churchill once said...."Fuck It"

Sorry if you got excited but jesus only DJs the backroom or heaven so i couldnt get a hold of his mixtape. But....i have got one that is stunning. Just to illustrate how good it is i whilst downloading it also downloaded The Twelves new mixtape (The Twelfth Hour) which at any other time would be on repeat.....But this mix thanks to an anonymous red-head has come to my attention and is unbelievable.

It i could base how i wish to be as a DJ in the future it would be just this. Every song is amazing and it sits somewhere between a mini-mix (where you may not realise there a 20 songs beatmatched at once) and a full blown mixtape. Swick is a melbourne boy doing OZ proud and along with this dope mix he has some of his own individual remixes up. Thankfully, arguably the best new label in the land of OZ 'Sweat It Out' have gobbled him up.....he joins the likes of Ajax, DCUP, Act Yo Age, EduK etc etc. So sit your ass down put redtube i mean youtube on pause for 30 minutes and listen to the best eighty songs crammed into that time. Yes its Steve Aoki, not much information about who he is playing with yet is available but for Steve Aoki he does mean special guests. Tilt your kilt cos Hostage is in the house. Hailing from Scotland this dude has been spinning it up lately. The hard electro styles of Hostage have been on repeat for me heaps lately. I am not sure what they are starting to put in the water over there but scotts like Hostage and Dirty Basement have been smashing out cranking tunes that have an inventive element to them.....i am yet to figure out what makes them different but there is definately something. Enjoy these couple of tracks and stay on the look out for electro talent as its everywhere not just france. If you dig these tracks he is playing at Oxford Arts Factory early-ish october.

yay. i have found time on the weekend to post...anyhoo the theme for this post are remixes, edits, covers etc of old tunes. Everyone has there personal favourites and although i will never state a cover better then the original as its still after all a cover they are sometimes dang gooood.

The first is a cover (with some lyric changes) of the classic Golden Brown by The Stranglers which in itself it a cranking tune. You may have heard this song in the film 'Snatch' which is also a cracker of a movie like all Guy Richie films it has a great soundtrack. This song was quite highly placed in JJJ's Hottest 100 of all time and if my memory serves me well (rarely does it) it may have made it into the top ten. The cover of this track is by Frankmusik who i did an earlier post about ....i think. You will notice he changed the lyrics to When You're Around but still the same melody etc. So this is Boys Noize remix of his cover. You decide.

Secondly. One of my all time favourite old-school tunes that had a moment with Arty Ziff on the Simpsons is Sweet Dreams. The synth line is classic as is the whole tune....cheers Eurythmics. So a couple of Edits of this one the first is from ChewFu and with some new beats and Diplo-like dropping of a rap-appella really makes it a wicked tune. The other is from a man who the scene knows to well Erol Alkan...his stuff is good i just think he rekons he is too good and in some spots ruins the vocal romance....o well its your call enjoy.

Sadly no its not this new york bloke that inspired the post. After watching Notorious again i figured that it not only does Biggie deserve a post but there is also not enough hip hop on here. So also in keeping with the overall theme of this here is some of his stuff given new-school spins. Both of the tracks are mashups and are daaamn fine. The first and probably the better of the two is a mash of the Justice remix of Electric Feel mash potatoed with the B.I.G.'s killer hit Nasty Boy. The man behind the mask Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 has been the best thing to emerge from Canada.

This guy has been one of my faves for some time now, love him or hate him his trance like mixes are some of the best out, an essential component ot any electro lovers iPod.

The chill factor he adds to most of his tracks and remixes gives him the edge that has landed him #3 on inthemix international acts.

His mind-blowing performances earlier in 09 with the good vibes crew has managed to bring him back to our shores once again to headline the upcoming stereosonic festival.

Hes managed to produce one of the best remixes of calivins "im not alone"

I'd like to kick things off with a bit off jazz as the new counter-part to the duo
The trumpet has devoloped a whole new name for itself thanks to the unique sounds of... thats right you guessed it the one and only timmy trumpet. The worlds first DJ/trumpet artist.
Although fairly new to the scene this guy has been jumping from festival to festival throughout 09 and and i look forward to catching his electro symphony next month at parklife.
He's even managed to nab himself a spot in sonys inthemix top 50 , sitting nicely at #37 in Aust, not bad for a guy who only started a few years back.

Are you 'Ready For The Weekend'? as its friday this is a fitting time to give some insight to Calvin Harris' new album 'Ready For The Weekend'. No stranger to the scene and definately an electro household name Calvin Harris' new album follows up from his huge album 'I Created Disco'. One of my alltime favourite Calvin Harris brings a nu disco electro style to his sets, remixes and his originals. 'RFTW' has copped a hammering in British media (although what doesnt - i can see why the boys in green street hooligans hate english journoz) and as you can expect it has not been very well received due to the huge success of 'I'm Not Alone' (the first single of the album). From my listen of the album i would say that no it is not an album full of hits like 'I'm Not Alone', but it has some very good tracks with a true example of Calvins diversity amongst the electro genre. He was slammed for his backlash at the bad reviews of the album but unlike muscles i think he has true variety and quality, lets hope this is not the last of Calvin Harris as its a pretty dang good listen.

Go out to your local record store (even if thats the itunes store) and buy some albums as there is plenty out at the moment. Its one for the list but untill then enjoy these tracks.

ok i am feeling very sick and drained but somehow i cannot fall asleep. So instead i am downloading music! anyways enough crying....i have not posted many mixes lately and wondering whether i may have made a cyber post to do so, however i have for you two mixes from two of the hottest DJ/producers of 09.

Firstly probably one of my most played for 09 is AC Slater who through remixes and originals has been banging his hard-electro around the worls and up the charts. ALBUM REVIEW - Temporary Pleasure/Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco who consist of James Ford and Jas Shaw have transformed themselves from an ok indie band into a master electronic production team. The progressive nature of Simian Mobile Disco's originals along with the repetition and intrumental arrangement is what defines the duo within the international scene. After the success of the first album (Attack Decay Sustain Release) through such singles as Hustler and It's The Beat - SMD's new album has been put on hold to accompany the production skills of James Ford who as mentioned in a previous post was the master mind behind albums from The Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons, Muse, Peaches and french electronic pioneers Air.

I must say right now that it was worth the wait, i am not placing any predictions or insight as to how everybody else will receive the new album but i myself am absolutely loving it. The albums augmenting beats are paired with stunning guest vocals, the vocal cameos shine light through Temporary Pleasure which is down as one of my albums of 09. From The Gossip's Beth Ditto to Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor the different styles of vocals and songs epitomize the range and capabilities of Simian Mobile Disco. All in all a wicked album which is due for release in a couple of days - worth a trip to the record store but until then enjoy these three tracks including SMD's single off the album Audacity of Huge

behind the melodic melancholy treasure that is Beirut is quite a good story. At 16 the lead singer Zach Condon dropped out of school to drink his way around Europe. Upon this travel in Serbia he discovered a Balkan folk style of music that now is his life. Condons smooth voice and song arrangement is a true testimony to music itself and the folk side of it. The romance and capturing nature of the songs amidst the folk jamming and chilling culture is well represented in this live and pretty cool video version of 'Nantes'. N-JOY these tracks in a chilled relaxed state.peace.

I am back amongst civilisation now and back in circulation are to big names that everyone should be excited about. I am of course talking about the new albums from The Arctic Monkeys and Muse.

First The Arctic Monkeys new album 'Humbug'. Honestly coming from a huge fan i have to say that this is not what i expected. The brit kids i feel have got a bit big for there boots and have released an average album. The old Monkeys' sound is trapped under a bold choice in producers, by this i mean not sticking with Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford who was brilliant for them on their previous album. The trashy indie rock riffs have been lost and the trash outways with a grimy sound....however there are still moments of revived brilliance amidst the album so its definately one for a listen.

Secondly Muse who have released this track from their anticipated album 'The Resistance' - i am yet to listen to the entire album though without getting my eardrums around it i anticipate a great record that will reflect their old sound along with influence from the hide-away recording they did in Italy (if i am not mistaken).

I will be away for a few days so that = no posts (sorry).

But all is not lost as the focus for this post is my biggest influence and a damn cool/successful dude. Pedro Winter aka Busy P along with occasionaly DJing some wicked sets and releasing dope tracks he is the owner of record label Ed Banger which im sure ive posted about before. So at some point he did manage Daft Punk but those gods have moved on and now he is restricted to still a f'ing dope roster of artists. This post is a change of pace for the week and with the new release of Phoenix's new album 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' (Produced by Philippe Zdar AKA Cassius) is the groups fourth album and includes bangers such as the infamous '1901'. The dudes if you have not heard are a seemingly retro indie band that chills out melodic riffs in unison with Thomas Mars' soothing vocals. These alternate rockers were from the very seen that saw the success of Air and Daft Punk.

The second single from the album Lisztomania refers to the pianist (when read loudly and quickly takes a whole new meaning)--- Frank Liszt who was sooo damn good he had a standing house of women screaming at him - sort of like today's Russell Brand. Anyways there is the history so enjoy these two tracks plus arguably there all time best track

We have this week Holy Ghost made of two chillers from Brooklyn. These Yanks have been pumping out wicked DJ sets and some awesome remixes recently....i saw these dudes as support for Hot Chip early this year at the Enmore ad was impressed....FBI 94.5 have been pushing these guys quite a bit lately and you can see why.

An original of theirs Hold On is below and is featured in A-Trak's new Infinity+1 mix....and a remix of oz-dudes Cut Copy is pretty rad! along with those two MGMT remixes who also came to Australia in the summer holidays and have been announced in a rather disappointing Splendour In The Grass 09 lineup....one is from Holy Ghost and the other is pretty cool rework by Jim Jones that i thought i might drop....
